Having an effective resume is very important in today's competitive world. A effectively written resume is your key to open opportunities. You may think a generic resume is just fine for you and you can get things done with this. But you may be wrong. Because employers receive tons of applications for the very few vacancies in the company. Competition is very tough. And HR managers don't waste time on reading each and every application. If your resume is generic then it has less chance of getting shortlisted and worst that than is If your resume is carelessly written resume simply goes in dust bin. An effectively written resume attracts the attention of employer and increases your chances of getting shortlisted for the interview.
Here are some tips which will help you in writing an effective resume.
Formatting:
Make your resume properly formatted. So it can be easily readable to the employer and highlight the main headings so employer can easily get the info he want to know about you. Keep proper white space in your resume. Don't make it bunch or don't give extra spaces. Highlight your special attributes.
Avoid Spelling mistakes:
Having spelling mistakes in a resume can be very expensive. This is every recruiter hate and your resume get out of consideration. Having spelling mistakes in resume is simply considered as a careless person. If you can't just write a resume avoiding spelling mistakes then how you can carry the company's responsibilities. This is what employer thinks. To avoid spelling mistakes in resume proofread your resume yourself. Ask your family members or friends to proofread it. You can use spelling check tools on the computer. Such as MS-Word.
Don't make it too short or too lengthy.
An ideal resume is 1and half to 2 pages. Employer's don't have time to read about your whole past life. Keep in mind that resume is summary of your qualifications and achievements. It isn't your autobiography. Having too short resume considered as you lack accomplishments. Write relevant information which job demands. Stay relevant to employer's need. Think what employer want to see in your resume. And tie up your skills and accomplishments with the employer's needs.
Never ever lie.
Your resume is a mean for telling employer that you are best suited for the job. But you shouldn't bragg in your resume. Be honest to yourself. Making false statements can harm your professional reputation if found out at the interview and can cost you job. If you have basic knowledge of something then state it as basic. Do not state it as expertise.

Often people just edit other resumes. Employers get lot of same type of resume only just Name and address etc. information changed. The get used of it. Your resume should be unique, it should stand above the other applicants.
Avoid pronouns....
Avoid pronouns such as “I” or “me” to give your resume more professional look. Write “managed” instead of “I managed” as it is the document. Not your autobiography as explained above. Avoid writing irrelevant information until you think it's gonna help you to get the job at any manner.
Update your resume regularly.
And finally make sure you have updated all your basic information in the resume before sending it to your potential employer. Such as your contact details, Email ID and mobile numbers. Because this is how employer can reach you. Most often people forget to change their mobile numbers. Employer won't try to contact you more than 1 to 2 times. He don't have time to try to reach you with your address stated on the resume. If you are not able to contacted, you are out of consideration.
